Over the past 14 years, GSoC has allowed more than 14,762 students from 109 countries work with 651 open source projects and produce millions of program lines
since its creation in 2005.

• The objectives of the program are the following:
  Motivate students to begin participating in the development of the free software.
• Provide students of computer science and related fields with opportunity to perform work related to their academic activities.
• Expose students to real-world software development scenarios (by example, testing, version control, software licensing, labeling in lists of
  mail, etc.).
• Create more open source code.
• Help open source projects attract new developers.

Working online, the selected participating students receive a stipend that allows them to concentrate on their programming projects for three months. The volunteer mentors help students plan their time, answer questions and provide guidance on good practices, specific tools for each project and community norms.

Students receive an invaluable learning experience, an introduction to the global community of free software / open source and merits that to the possible Employers will love to see on your resume.

Mentor organizations will get new contributions and contributors together with the recognition of Google and a greater profile for your project.

Students can submit applications from March 25 to April 9.
