It stands out in the Spanish Modern Movement usually for its aesthetic or plastic qualities, but there are key aspects in its design that could relate it to sustainability. This has not prevented it from being affected by issues such as the threat of depopulation or adaptation to current needs in balance with heritage. Knowing completely the problems of Vegaviana, especially from the point of view of citizens and the different agents involved, becomes a fundamental preliminary step to generate intervention proposals. Therefore, the main objective of this research is to establish a qualitative and participatory framework that completes another quantitative and technicalal ready generated previously through sustainability indicators. abstract = {The tobacco industry in Extremadura, specifically in the agricultural regions of Coria, Plasencia, Jara{\'{i}}z de la Vera and Navalmoral de la Mata, plays a key role in the regional economy. The tobacco industry has evolved over time in a process aimed at mechanization. However, at its inception, it was unfailingly linked to the parallel construction of unique buildings that remain as symbols of a forgotten past: the tobacco barns. The idea of this paper arises from the lack of knowledge of this pre-industrial buildings. These disused buildings, due to the crops transformation and European policies, become archaeological elements of the landscape in these regions. Therefore, the objectives are to highlight the importance of these constructions as cultural heritage and propose their consideration as a landscape of tourist interest. To carry out the study, we conducted a bib- liographic review that contextualizes and dates this industrial-agrarian architecture/archaeology. In conclusion, interest of heritage protection is generated by the consolidation of a sustainable industrial landscape tourism in an area devoid of this type of cultural route.},

A change in the daily users` habits is further on suggested. The process develops circularly in four steps: building definition model, monitoring, analysis, and users' participation. The method has been tested in four similar public buildings of traditional construction. Firstly, a building model has been defined (climatology, thermal envelope and maintenance, interior design, systems, and occupancy). Secondly, a low-cost, scalable, and open-source information system has been installed to collect data of energy consumption, temperature, humidity and CO2 values. The resulting time series were analysed and compared to the energy consumption bills of the previous three years to obtain the real building behaviour. Data gathered by the sensors and suggestions have been made available to users for real-time monitoring. Furthermore, reliable energy indicators to characterize this building typology in services sector have been obtained. Other sub goals include raising awareness among users about the use of public resources, and the initiation of a smart-village strategy using low-cost technologies. The results highlight inefficient consumption patterns and discomfort situation that should encourage users to take action and reorient municipal policies.},

abstract = {Indoor radon is a major health concern as it is a known carcinogenic. Nowadays there is a trend towards a greater energy conservation in buildings, which is reflected in an increasing number of regulations. But, can this trend increase the indoor radon concentration? In this paper, we selected a radon prone area in Spain and focused on single-family dwellings constructed in a variety of architectural styles. These styles ranged from 1729 up to 2014, with varying construction techniques (from local resources to almost universally standard building materials) and regulations in force (from none to the Spanish regulation in force). The226Ra concentrations in soil and surface radon exhalation rates were rather similar in this area, mean values ranging 70–126 Bq/kg and 49–100 mBq/m2{\textperiodcentered}s, respectively. Indoor radon concentration was generally greater than the contribution from soil exhalation (surface exhalation rates), especially in New dwellings (1980–2014). Its concentration in dwellings built in the Traditional style (1729–1940) was significantly lower than in the new houses. This can be consequence of the air tightness of the dwellings as a consequence of the different regulations in force. In the period covered by the Traditional style, there was no regulation in force, and dwelling had loose air tight. Whereas in recent times, there are mandatory regulations assuring a better air tightness of the buildings. Refurbishment of Traditional dwellings also seems to increase the indoor radon concentration, as they must also comply with the regulations in force.},

abstract = {This paper introduces the problem of the abandonment of historical housing located in city centres. These constructions are usually excluded from the cultural heritage conservation processes, and therefore a large quantity of them is currently unlivable, and because of this there is an urgent need to propose solutions. However, the extent of the existing building stock and the additional difficulty of protecting its patrimonial value requires an accurate analysis. This work makes a contribution to the definition of historical housing areas by cataloguing the different dwellings, hence it underlines the need to define building typologies in order to simplify the multiparametric analysis and identify the main vernacular characteristics on such a wide scale. This definition of typology may include all the parameters which value and characterize a historic house through an approach which combines a territorial, urban, architectural, and construction perspective. Likewise, data processing will enable the selection and definition of building typology. The methodology proposed serves as a policy guideline for analysis of buildings in historical centres, prioritising the preservation of the cultural heritage value and the recovery of the historic use of urban space. This method has been tested in a previous case study of the Jerte Valley (Valle del Jerte), located in The Central System, Spanish and Portuguese: Sistema Central. This study approaches the analysis of a vernacular housing stock of three thousand dwellings by: first, taking into account the complexity of the historical area analysing the territory, landscape, architecture and urban variables; then, by selecting the representative building typologies; and, finally, by defining information sheets. The culture heritage of the Valley, based on adequate information, will be protected.},

abstract = {Attention mechanisms play a central role in NLP systems, especially within recurrent neural network (RNN) models. Recently, there has been increasing interest in whether or not the intermediate representations offered by these modules may be used to explain the reasoning for a model's prediction, and consequently reach insights regarding the model's decision-making process. A recent paper claims that 'Attention is not Explanation' (Jain and Wallace, 2019). We challenge many of the assumptions underlying this work, arguing that such a claim depends on one's definition of explanation, and that testing it needs to take into account all elements of the model. We propose four alternative tests to determine when/whether attention can be used as explanation: a simple uniform-weights baseline; a variance calibration based on multiple random seed runs; a diagnostic framework using frozen weights from pretrained models; and an end-to-end adversarial attention training protocol. Each allows for meaningful interpretation of attention mechanisms in RNN models. We show that even when reliable adversarial distributions can be found, they don't perform well on the simple diagnostic, indicating that prior work does not disprove the usefulness of attention mechanisms for explainability.},

abstract = {Vernacular architecture is closely and traditionally linked to energy efficiency due to its adaptation to climate and location. The main purpose of this paper is to diagnose the hygrothermal behaviour inside the vernacular housings of the Jerte Valley (Valle del Jerte), located in the Spanish Central System mountain range (Sistema Central). This region is widely characterised by a Mediterranean continental mountain climate with medium-sized mountains and presents two distinguished six-month periods: one is warm and dry, whereas the other is cold and rainy. The objective of the aforementioned diagnosis is to promote the preservation of buildings and its energy refurbishment. As a starting point, a study that associates the region's monthly climate data with the thermal comfort has been developed. Afterwards, a regional building type has been defined for further use by an energy simulation program in order to measure the hygrothermal behaviour of the envelope. Finally, these results have been related both to thermal comfort and bioclimatic strategies. The results suggest that, during the warm period, indoor conditions are comfortable without the need for an additional energy supply. Nevertheless, in the cold period, indoor conditions are warmer than outdoor conditions, but an additional external energy supply will be required to achieve the comfort zone. Accordingly, it is determined that the refurbishment solutions used for those constructions must maintain intact the bioclimatic strategies that benefit summer conditions. However, strategies that give rise to winter conditions without changing its summer behaviour must be improved.},

abstract = {The invaluable historic dwelling stock of many cities today needs an accurate analysis in order to implement a relevant program of research for its conservation, maintenance, or refurbishment. Additionally, energy efficiency studies are essential in every case to guarantee sustainability. In these situations, a simulation process will be a suitable approach to obtaining results. However, historic dwellings are complicated to simulate. They require a comprehensive study of traditional crafts and techniques as well as of ancient constructions which rely heavily on local builders' design skills and traditions as well as on the regional materials and architectural knowledge. Furthermore, the intricate geometries and the large number of different dwelling cases demand a amplification and a typological definition of representative buildings. In addition, in an energy simulation process, it is indispensable to know what the lifestyle was. In a traditional dwelling, the ancient customs have to be taken into account, studying the occupation, metabolism, activities, and traditional clothing in order to define a reliable computer model. Moreover, an operation usage program has to be defined in order to set other building simulation parameters such as the ventilation, shading, and internal gains. The present work proposes a method using DesignBuilder, an EnergyPlus software package, to generate a model for the energy simulation of historic dwellings through a case study of an historic dwelling stock in the Sistema Central of Spain. How the type was generated from a real case with an architectonic, constructive, and activity definition is described. Guidelines are provided for modeling the building and for setting the simulation parameters necessary to obtain correct results.},
